We are unsure if campground area construction will be started this year or not. We have not had any official word from the State yet. Hope this helps. I remember before the trails in Jericho were even a dream, alot of people camped in the Jericho area.

Jericho Mt has 55 miles of trails so far and plan to expand to 140 miles. The park will be closed as soon as the snow is gone. It is closed by the trail master and reopened around the 23rd of May. There is no camping at the park at this time. We are also in the process of connecting Jericho trails and Success trails through Berlin.

State would acquire 96-acre parcel within Jericho park in proposed land swap-BERLIN DAILY SUN March 31,2009. BY BARBARA TETREAULTT — National Forest land would become part of Jericho Mountain State Park under a proposed land swap that would see a similar size property in Bartlett added to the WMNF.The complicated swap involves two governmental agencies and a nonprofi t conservation group.N.H. Trails Bureau head Chris Gamache said the parcel of WMNF land sits in the middle of the 7,200 acre Jericho Mountain State Park which is being developed for ATV use. But because the WMNF management plan does not allow ATV use anywhere in the forest, the N.H. Trails Bureau has had to re-route existing trails to avoid crossing the property. At the same time, the owner of a piece of property on Bartlett Mountain that abuts the WMNF wanted to sell the parcel. Jack Savage of the Society for the Protection of N.H. Forest said the landowner, the Cassidy family of Maine, wanted to sell immediately.Recognizing the Bartlett Mountain parcel as property with high conservation value, the Forest Society stepped in and signed a purchase and sale agreement with the owner. The sale is scheduled to be finalized at the end of April.Savage said his agency got involved because it could move quicker than either the state or the WMNF. "A private nonprofi t can make these things work," he said. But the Forest Society Society has no desire to retain ownership of the Bartlett Mountain parcel."We don’t intent to keep it," Savage said.Instead, the Forest Society plans to transfer the parcel to the state which will reimburse the agency for the cost of the purchase. The state, in turn, hopes to swap the Bartlett piece, which is within the proclamation boundary of the WMNF, for the piece of land the U.S. Forest Service holds within Jericho Mountain State Park. Gamache argues the swap will benefi t both parties. The WMNF gets a piece of land that abuts other national forest property. The Jericho property, which the WMNF acquired back in 1919, will be managed consistent with surrounding land for ATV use. A proposal to transfer the Bartlett parcel to the Forest Service in exchange for the state getting ownership of Jericho Mountain piece has been put forward and both parties have informally agreed to it. On the Forest Service side, O’Dell Tucker, deputy district ranger for the Androscoggin District, said that kicks off a multi-step process. The first phase involves the completion of various technical studies leading to what the parties hope is an Agreement to Initiate. The second phase is the environmental analysis with either an environmental assessment or the more detailed environmental impact statement undertaken. The second phase also entails the final appraisal and a decision to move forward with the purchase. The last stage is executing the sale and transferring the prop-erty.Tucker said the entire process can take two to three years. He said right now the Forest Service is in the process of surveying and has met with Bartlett officials and the Berlin city manager. Next Monday, the Forest Service and Gamache are scheduled to meet with the Berlin mayor and city council to discuss the land swap proposal.

Also allowed on the trails are horses, mountain bikes, hikers and in the winter time dog sleds and sow machines.

I'll need to check, but I believe Horses are not permitted at Jericho... I'll be at the BOT this afternoon, so I'll confirm with the Chief... but my understanding was that because of NH Horse Council policy in opposition to sharing trails with ATVs (ATV/TBs being primary use in Jericho), equestrian use was not permitted.

Different options have been suggested. Its preferable to be a private develop and management option in that the use of OHRV registration funds for services that other groups would access is something that most in the community seriously oppose. It may be that we accept the small buildout of the campground/etc... then require that all profit is transferred back to the OHRV fund. But the trail system needs to be completed first... and businesses within the City of Berlin may be formed to provide that service. Really need the best interest of the OHRVs and the City to be priority one.

Jericho Mountain State Park improvements continue CONCORD — The New Hampshire Bureau of Trails has announced that new trails are being completed at Jericho Mountain State Park and will be ready for riding within the next week. The Bureau plans to have trails open on the northern Head Pond Tract, with several other trail sections opened for riding by the end of August. Two new picnic pavilions have been built at scenic overlooks on the property and pit toilets will be installed at the same locations during the first week of August. Major improvements at the beachfront area have been accomplished in cooperation with the New Hampshire Department of Corrections. Inmate work crews have been assisting the Bureau with clearing brush and raking at the beachfront and the former city park area. They will also be assisting Bureau staff with trail construction and maintenance in the future. “The cooperative venture with the Department of Corrections has been a great pairing for Trails. The work crews and Corrections Department staff have been great to work with and we are really looking forward to continuing the work in the future,” said Trails Chief Chris Gamache. The Bureau of Trails is also in early stages of planning for a major ATV event at Jericho Mountain State Park next summer, and a route through the city of Berlin for ATVs is hoped to be open for this fall. Time to go North and spend some Money!

Jericho Motorsports expands to meet demandBY GAIL SCOTT THE BERLIN DAILY SUN BERLIN —BERLIN — Jericho Motorsports has big plans for its 232 Jericho Road (Route110) location. Owners Randy Cicchetto and Bobbie Aversa are building a new 40-foot by 60-foot showroom for their ATV and snowmobile rental, sales and service business, adding to Jericho Motorsports’ original 25-foot by 62-foot building. The new space will be the showroom and parts store, while the original space will be devoted to service, except for the former parts room which will be transformed into an employees’ lunchroom. Cicchetto says that his business has not suffered from the recession. Each year since the founding of the business in 2004, Jericho Motorsports has met its business plan goals and last year, those goals were exceeded, Cicchetto says. “The business has grown through the recession with no dip.” “We are adding a new service technician (Matt Carter, of Berlin) to the five already employed by the business. Weare expanding our rental fleet of ATVs and snowmobiles,” he says. One of the biggest attractions bringing people to Jericho Motorsports is the ATV park, says Cicchetto. “People come from as far away as Russia, Norway, Poland, New York City, Bellingham, Washington. People come from all over,” he says, here to explore the ATV trails in Jericho State Park. “Most people just don’t understand the draw that this park is,” he adds. Cicchetto remarks that some people have warned him that the economy isn’t good enough to make a big new construction investment in his Jericho Motorsports site, but, he says, “I say, if you don’t do it now, when? Lumber and labor prices are good. You may have to tighten your belt elsewhere, but now is when interest rates are down. This is a good time to grow the business.” “We hope to employ two more people in the coming months,” Cicchetto adds. “I’m proud that local people are working here. We have local suppliers, local people working here. We’re buying from Caron Building and White Mountain Lumber for our addition. It’s being built by Romik Developers, of Berlin (Mike Couch and Roland Berthiaume).” Cicchetto has the background to assess the possibilities of his location on Route 110, not far from the ATV park. His father, John, was an Articat dealer during the 1960s and ‘70s. “I had my first snowmobile ride in the mid ‘60s when I was six or seven years old,” he says. “I’ve been involved with ATVs all my life and I hike, fish, and play hockey in between times.” His brother, Bob, is the owner of the Rochester Sports Center, in Rochester, which has the Polaris and Artic Cat franchise in that area. Cicchetto worked there for some years before he saw the opportunity in Berlin and branched out on his own with Jericho Motorsports. The business continues to be a family affair with his son Kris, 16, and daughter Leigha, 15, lending a hand, and his wife, Bobby Aversa, the actual owner of the business. Cicchetto notes that BEDCO’s Bill Andreas and Laconia Savings Bank have been instrumental in “helping this small business grow,” he says, adding, “Small business is the backbone of America.” If all goes well, Cicchetto intends to keep right on growing Jericho Motorsports. If putting in long hours and a solid background in the business make the difference, Cicchetto’s Jericho Motorsports looks to be one of the success stories of the coming new era in Berlin.

SDN Snack Shack now openCharlotte and Fran Morin of Berlin have opened the SDN Snack Shack on Jericho Road and will be serving a variety of delicious snacks for your enjoyment. BERLIN -- ATV Riders will have a special treat when the trails re-open at Jericho ATV Park. SDN Snack Shack is now open and located right next to Jericho Motorsports. Owners Charlotte and Fran Morin recently purchased a building from Ursula and Wayne Forsythe. The Forsythe’s are owners of Usula’s in Milan. The SDN Snack Shack opened on April 10, and is serving hot dogs and hamburgers, etc. As the season progresses they will add sausage, peppers and onion subs and Philly steak and cheese w/pepper and onion. Home cooked foods will be available as well as daily specials. They have picnic tables set up right at the shack. The Morins began their career doing the fair circuit and got the idea that there was a opportunity to service the ATV riders as well as snowmobilers.
