... and asked me to come along, so it's back into the woods to poke around after a moose. Not exactly a hardship, 'cause as you guys well know, it's a beautiful piece of New Hampshire. Been up a couple of times scouting so far and the foliage is really starting to look fine. Here's a sunset shot I like. Is there a trail map available now for the area east of Rt. 110 ? Or for any other trail maps that are in our area The area we were picked for is NH F&G WMU C-2. It pretty much runs from Gorham up to W. Milan, then to Errol, then back south along the ME line back to Gorham. Thanks, Jay

Let's not forget the cabin for rent in West Milan! View pictures at www.campforrent.netCall Randy Blais @ 603.449.3429 or email info@campforrent.net Sleeps 6 or more, plenty of parking, about 8 minutes from Jericho! Hi, Been a while! I'd like to thank Ernie and Randy for hooking us up for a weeks stay at the camp during moose hunting season in 2009. It was very comfortable, clean and had the amenities for sure. That wood stove was much appreciated after a long day in the woods ! greatnorthwoods.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=general&action=display&thread=41- Jay

Opening Day Bull ! Taken by my friend about 10 miles north of Jericho in West Milan. He said that he heard that 3 moose were taken in the Park opening day. The camp where he stayed was a bit closer to where he had also seen moose so he did his stalking there. Thanks to all for the advise and info again this year. - Jay

Oops, forgot to also ask, are the timber company folks still running chopping activities in or around the Park? Thanks, Jay Not in the Park but just outside it to the north..... You would cross thru it if you could go North on Snowmobile Trail 109. We have seen moose in the Park all summer, mostly where you got lucky last year and on the pipline clear cuts nearby... Good Luck! Thanks for the info Higgy. Stupid question #1 : Can ATV's travel on snowmobile trails in NH (like for example, on Snowmobile Trail #109 ? Stupid question #2 : Where can we get snowmobile trail maps for the area? - Jay ps. Did you ever get that taste of Michelle's moose chili ?

Here's a link that you folks may get a laugh out of. It's our moose hunting thread on fishing forum that Ron (Rufuz) and I are members of. Most of the members there have been fishing together for five or so years. We're blessed (I think? ) with a very energetic member who organizes lots of deep sea charters. Lots of laughs and we generally return with a healthy quantity of fillets. Like you guys, we've been trying to help out the local food bank. This years food drive is coming up 10/23. Anyway, here's the link, and if you feel like it poke around the rest of the forum. We always welcome new members. If you would like to give some deep sea fishing for some haddock, cod, pollock, etc. a try, you won't find a more reasonable charter or a more fun group. www.fisharkadventures.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=pizzaroll&action=display&thread=342Hope you get a kick out of some of the banter. - Jay

Two decent days of scouting. One nice bull, a nice Cow, as well as a yearling Bull spotted for our efforts. Poked around on the west side of the C-1 hunting district and made it up to Pond of Safety - nice country. On the east side, poked around in W. Milan and the WMNF Loop road for a bit as well as a few spots off Rt. 110.
We didn't bring our wheelers with us this time as it was kind of a flying trip to just get more orientated. We did hike up the Lake Loop Trail in the Park for about a mile just to get a bit of a feel for the place. The lake was mighty pretty and the trail well cared for.
As before, if anyone wants to chime in with any moose whereabouts info we're all ears. Maybe this cold weather coming will stir 'em up.
Thanks, Jay

Well, Thursday can't come soon enough I guess. The next two days of moose scouting before the season begins on the 17th.
Thanks much to Dano and GotMoxie for the advise here and in your PM's. Being rookies in your neck of the woods, any local advise is a big help.
Thanks, - Jay

Thanks for the reply and info Dan.
If the State of NH is anything like the State of Maine, they can use the registration money!
Our next scouting trip will be 10/8 & 10/9 so we'll be trying to check out those cuts you mentioned.
Thanks to his ad here, it looks as if we may have hooked up with Randy Blais for a place to stay in Milan while we're in the North Country.
Just thinking down the line - worst case scenario - if we can't tug the moose with our machines, might you know of any folks with draft horses or skidders that would do that kind of stuff?
Thanks for any advice.
- Jay

Hi,
Just found this board - lots of great info. You and the Andoscoggin Valley ATV Club really seem to have your stuff together!
We're in the process of trying to get familiarized with the area in preparation for our moose hunt next month in Zone C-1. I know in the WMNF motorized use is restricted so we're trying to identify areas where we may hunt and still have the ability to use our ATV's.
If you folks could help us with a couple of questions that would be great.
Is hunting permitted off the areas accessable from the Jericho ATV trails? (great map by the way!)
One of us will be coming from Maine (yeah, I know, people from over there act funny ;D). Does the State of NH recognize Maine ATV registration or will he have to get a NH registration?
One of us is a very experienced ATV operator, the other one just a little experience. What are the easy/difficult trails in Jericho?
We've done a couple of short moose scouting trips so far but will be stepping up our scouting efforts considerably in the next three weeks. Any recommendations as to where (any recent clearcuts, etc) we should concentrate our scouting from you folks would be much appreciated.
Thanks much in advance. Looking forward to meeting some of you fine folks soon.
- Jay, Ron and Michelle
