I was leading a group of about 30 ATV's through the park this past weekend and while on the Caron Loop we came across a pretty good size coyote in the middle of the trail. He moved so fast I was the only one to see him.
Just a minute later, close to the house/camp out there, we came across a moose. He was so big the others couldn't miss him.
He stepped right out in front of me from the side of the trail. I hit my brakes as quick as I could and still came within 10 feet of him. Luckily he ran the other way down the trail and then turned into the woods. I would have been all done if he came at me. That's the closest I've ever come to one. His belly was about 6' from the ground and he had a huge rack on him.
I wish I had a helmet cam running at that point. Would have gotten a great shot for the website!

When we went to Jackman, ME this year for vacation I had 2 cow moose on seperate rides run out in front of me. I came within about 15 feet of the second one. She went only 10 feet off the trail and was looking my way. I didn't stay around. I couldn't see if her ears were flattened back or if the hackles on her back were up. Watch for those signs and get out of there if they are there.
