A couple of questions. The first will have an opinion based answers but hopefully won't open up a can of worms.
1. How are atv riders viewed up north on sled trails assuming the trails are open in the winter to atv's?
2. Are most trails open to atv's in the winter?
Can't afford both a sled and an atv!

Ken, This does sounds like an opening of the worms to me, but.....as for the Berlin area trails, Jericho Moutain State park is open year round to atv's, except during mud season. Success Trail system is also open for the year except, again for mud season. Our club is going to start packing some trial in Jericho Moutain State park. We hope to be able to pack down about 10 to 15 miles of trails....stay tuned, we'll let you know when they have been done...

Snowmobile trails are not ATV (OHRV) trails. As ATV (OHRV) trails are not snowmobile trails. The mixed use or multi-use trails... are just that. They involve expenditure by both groups and permission granted. If you put tracks on an ATV... it is no longer legally considered an ATV. A quad can never be registered as a snowmobile... and under federal law can not operate on property under federal contract to the contrary regardless of tracks.

I have gone over this with different F&G officers & BoT people, and what I was told that an atv with tracks is nothing more then an atv with tracks. There is no change in the reg, and you can re-reg it as a snowmobile.
Check the trails for the green diamonds....that will tell you if those trails are allowing atv's during winter riding....I only know of the trails up in this area.
I hope this helps...

KEN it sounds like i spoke too soon about being able to use ATV with tracks on snowmobile trails, and for that i apologize i guess i am confused myself , because i got my information when i was helping a snowmobile class in Kingston NH and a member of the class asked the fish and game officer who came to talk to the class about the track on ATV and he was the one who told him it could be used on snowmobile trails if it had tracks so i don't know what the real answer is but going by the response it sounds like you can't .

ATV's are allowed on sow machine trails as long as there is 8" off snow and the trail is not closed to atv's ( signed closed) all state trails are open to atv's unless closed by the landowner. This info from the NH trails bureau. check with the trails bureau for further information.

yes we are talking about tracked ATVs on private or not the question , is would it be con sided a snowmobile if it has tracks? and could it be register as such. kind of like a wave runner registration turns into a boat if it is a three seater.

According to the Chief: Yes, if it meets the width/weight specifications when modified it would be considered a snowmobile. But it still can not be used on the federally contracted TE rail trails because of the waiver agreement.
It can not be registered as a snowmobile, because of the separation of funds.
But I usually wait for the Major to confirm...

Is there a way of finding out what the trail conditions are. I would like to come up and ride but do not want to make a 3 hour drive to find out the trails have more snow than my machine can handle.

Yes, Go to www.whitemtridgerunners.com/WMRR/Trail Conditions Page then Scroll down the page to "ATV Trails in Jericho Mt. Park" L. Gomes updates conditions Daily and sometimes hourly depending on the Weather!
