I'm in the process of building a new campground at the Jericho Gateway (route 110 Berlin, NH) with trail access to the park right from the campground (less than a mile of trail riding). I'm a bit premature in letting you know, but I hope to have a few sites open by July 2011 and I hope many of you day trippers will plan to stay and make the trip worthwhile. Just a few questions for you folks... Do you prefer rugged, remote camping? Or a more standard campground layout? I have 300 acres to play with, so I'll probably end up with a combination. Also, I've heard parking at Jericho State Park is mostly along the road. I'm planning a large day use parking lot with plenty of room to move trucks/trailers around. Please let me know if you have any questions, or ideas. Thank you, Steve sbclorite@yahoo.com

This is great news! I think the basic ammenities will work fine...give us water, give us clean bathrooms/showers and room to park and we are goosd to go. Having direct access to the park is sweet. Let me know when you're ready to have your first camper and I'll be there.

Thanks for all the great tips and requests! I've met a lot of great people through email and PM's. You've helped me prioritize the construction and where first to spend the money I have. I'll be meeting with the planning board over the next few weeks to finalize my design and really get the ball rolling. Spring has definately given me itchy hands to get started. I'll keep you all posted as thing progress and I'll include pictures when I can.
Thank you, Steve

That sounds great! I agree with the other folks. Water, showers, bathroom, easy trail and easy trailer access, and maybe a general store wtih basic needs when things get going. Love the idea!

This truly is great news. I do a lot of tenting, and hopefully your sites are not that close to each other so as to hear the person in the next camp site snoring. Please take into consideration parking for not only a truck or two but also the trailers they are towing. I have camped in Milan and found that sites fill up fast with trucks and trailers when there are 4 wheeler events such as the Mt. Washington climb back in June. There was limited parking and the campground was packed.

I'm planning the parking lot for campers and for trailhead users to be pull through. So parking will be a snap. The sites will be spacious, but may be lacking large trees until things grow in. I'm also toying with the idea of giving some tenters a fire ring and having them pick their own piece of nature to set up at, accessible via their atv. Most folks will keep away from others unless they are camping together. Keep the ideas coming! I'm almost ready to start building (just have to finish a bunch of paperwork). Thanks Steve

A fire and camping go together in my opinion. If I was to stay there and told I could not have a fire along with my tent, I would drive down the road and stay where I could have a fire. A little inconvenient but I have camped last year and trailered my machines, as did my buddies This almost seems like a home run but if you are going to exclude me and my group from not having a fire then we, and probably other would have to find alternatives. Just my two cents.

Sorry for the confusion. I intend every camper to have a fire, if they wish. A "fire ring" is is just a metal ring to build a fire in. I was assuming some folks might like to camp on a piece of the land that isn't a formal "site". Those campers could pick their own spot on the 300 acres and just camp. The ring gives them a safe place to build a fire and supports a metal grate for cooking. I'll have plenty of traditional sites and level RV sites as well, but I do want them spread out. I also have had an otherwise good camping experience dampened by inadvertently loud campers in the next site. I think I'll be able to cover most folk's style of camping. I'll eventually have cabins and a lodge, but it may be a few years to get it all built. Thank you for your input. Steve

Hey Steve, sent you an email.
Good luck with the planning board.
Our plan was 50 tent sites, 50 water/elec rv sites with plans to expand the following year to another 50 water/sewer/elec rv sites. Some long term secure trailer parking, so the weekend warriors can leave they trailer at the campground. We looked at 5-10 four season cabins for ATV/Snowmobilers. There really is no place to stay in the winter with Jericho access.
A wash rack would be nice. Camp fire rings are a must. Plenty of gravel in the area for good campground roads and trailer parking lots. You will need at least one MEN/WOMENS bath house for every 30-50 sites (Bath house Men:3 stand up toilets, 3-4 enclosed, 3-4 showers/ Womens 6 enclosed toilets, 3-4 showers. 2-3 sinks on per side). You will need a dump station.
Look into ATV rentals once your up and running!!!! Some single 4x4 atvs and some two up 4x4 atvs.
We planned on building an open Pole barn at least 25ft x 60ft for secure atv storage. That way you don't have atvs ripping around the campground. No atv riding in the campground area before 8am. Park in the barn, use your own lock and ride at will as it was going to be at the trail head away from the campers.
This area needs a campground, hope you can pull it off.
