Hey Gang,
New to this board. We are tossing around the idea of building a Campground close to the atv park.
Anyone know the Camber of Commerce? Anyone already working on a Campground in the area?
We would like to make sure it has direct access to the ATV park from the campground.
The plan we are thinking is:
1.Start out with 30amp service for 40+ sites. 2.Another 20-30 sites for dry camp with no services. 3.Once the campground is up and running, make the 40+ 30amp sites full hook-up(water, sewer, elec). 4.Make a wash rack area for cleaning the ATV/Dirtbikes. 5.Look into a full service restaurant for breakfast, lunch, dinner, game room and then a pool or two.
Don't know if anything is in the works for the area so this might all be a waste of time, but it is something we want to do. Since we ride and camp, this would be the perfect spot to build.
Let me know what you think.

Chris,
My buddies and I were just talking about this very thing last weekend. The state has plans to build a campground within the park. You can find the long range plans for the park and campground on the NHATV site. It'll be a few years before they get it going because of the economy but it should happen.
Does that make your concept a bad idea? No, I think it's still a good one. In fact there's 3 very large parcels for sale that abut the park. I know of two just to the west and was told that there's a third just east of the park.
You might have issues with the state in getting direct trail access so just make sure that's part of your P+S on any property if it's viewed as a critical issue for you. I would think the state would want to help out and grant access because it's only going to generate more income for an area that's economically depressed.
Good luck with the project as I think it's a good idea and I'll be the first to come up and stay!

Chris,
A year or so ago, I believe that the State BOT was looking for someone to come in and actually manage the campground facility. Your best bet would be to contact the Bureau of Trails directly and ask them about this. Your plan is a very good idea and I wish you luck. Now that the logging operations are all over with, the State just might want to "catch-up" on their plans.

Thanks Ken and Henry,
We plan on taking a trip up, maybe this Sunday. Any place to ride this time of year or is everything closed until mud season has passed?
I know the State is planning a campground, but that could take a long time. Most state campgrounds are OK, but don't offer much more then dry camping.
We think a full service campground with a pool, full hook ups, food and fun for all ages would be better. Add in a wash rack and maybe a storage area for the weekend riders that don't what to trailer round trip.
Yes, access to the park would be a must to make this work.
Thanks again guys.
Keep me posted on the park and I will let you know our plans when we decide on moving forward.

Only three rail trails are officially open at this time. The site within the park is planned to include much of what you've described. But having it outside the park would be just as viable... maybe more so. And would provide Berlin with additional tax revenue and business enhancement.

Any word on when the inside the park campground will be open? This year maybe?

Hey Chris, This is a great idea, and by what I am seeing with this forum and e-mails through the atv club web site, it is much needed. The only problem is going to be sewer and water. The City of Berlin does not go up that far on Route 110 and looks like they have no plans to either.
Good luck

The campground within the park (Master Plan) doesn't have any funding.

Funding is an issue with everything these days. We have a few investors onboard but need more.
We need to do some more research on the area. How many campers/riders would camp all week, weekend, or day trips.
Having raced Motocross for many years, I know what riders need and being a camper since the scout days we have a pretty good idea on the set up for the campground.
The town would have to support us, getting the permits quickly before the investors back out, getting the work done to the site etc.
The big question, is "If you build it will they come"?

Chris, We get a LOT of request for places to camp NEAR the trails. People WANT to camp and leave right from their camp site. I have read the State's master plan, I think that they are looking for too many camp sites all at once. I think that if you start with 25 or 30 sites with the room to grow. You will see that, you need to grow fast. People are using the park and like to camp close by.
A camp ground is much needed close to or next to the park. If I had the money, I would be all over it.....
Again....good luck...

Funding isn't really that big of an issue... just the BOT was depending on NHOHVA to sell it harder. And many of us are unhappy with the BOT, and State in general.

The Park isn't on the back burner. Its the main focus of the BOT. The unhappiness is they seem to think we operate in a vacuum...

I don't think that the state can allow this park to fail, it's in the eye of the public too much.
and we should be working to move this park along for us, no matter how we feel about the BoT or the State. This is our park, anyone who paid for there registrations paid for this park. The state, BoT need to work better with the clubs and nhohva better to move this park along, we after all are the ones taking care of it....
