I am wondering, is there any way for me [or anyone who lives in Berlin] to get to the trail from our houses? It would be pointless to take a truck 1000 ft. from my house to go to the trail.

Hunter we are in the process off getting the trail through Berlin. As off yet it will only be through Berlin but we are working on getting a way for the people from Berlin to ride their bikes to the trail, but it not be this fall. We are looking for this to happen next spring. I have been going to a lot off meetings to get this all ironed out, be patient with us please.

Robin Hood Rally details still to be worked out This may affect the opening of ATV Trails
THE BERLIN DAILY SUN, Wednesday, May 5, 2010 BERLIN — Less than three weeks before the Robin Hood Rally is slated to come to Berlin, organizers are still looking for 17-mile stretch of road to run the race. The race is part of a 10- stage event being filmed as part of a TV reality series that would run in the fall through the spring of 2011. Berlin would be the first stop on the rally with other stages in New York, Pennsylvania, North Carolina, Georgia, and Louisiana. City Manager Patrick MacQueen reported to the city council Monday, that the initial plan to use a section of Route 16 in Milan fell through because the state was concerned about the proximity to the Androscoggin River. The organizers then looked at the York Pond Road but the U.S. Forest Service denied permission. The latest proposal is to use the Laidlaw mill property and then go up the Mount Carberry Road. The city would have to close Hutchins Street for the two days. MacQueen said Laidlaw agreed to allow use of its property and the Androscoggin Valley Regional Refuse Disposal District is willing to allow use of Mount Carberry on Saturday and Sunday, May 22 and 23. Instead of starting on Friday, May 21, the race would be pushed back one day because the landfill has haulers making deliveries on Friday. Councilor Tim Cayer, however, reminded the council that the city’s ATV trail opens Sunday, May 23 and part of it travels along Hutchins Street. He said the opening date has been advertised throughout the state and ATV enthusiasts are expected to turnout to ride at Jericho State Park and the Success trail system. Mayor Paul Grenier said closing Hutchins Street would also impact Cayer’s business. The council discussed a variety of options such as a temporary rerouting of the ATV trail for Sunday. MacQueen said he will tell the organizers to come up with a plan to deal with the ATV trail opening. Grenier said he would like to see the road rally take place in Berlin and urged the city and organizers to find a way to make it work. The race would generate national publicity for Berlin as well as potentially up to $100,000 in spectator revenue that would go to the city. Up to 100 competitors will pay $5,000 each to participate in the event. Prizes in excess of $500,000 will be awarded. The winner is decided on a point system based on their best five races. First prize is a Ferrari F430, second prize is a Porsche 911 Turbo, and third prize is a Corvette Z51. Race rules report it is open to reliable and sporty vehicles. In other business: * The dedication of the section of Hutchins Street from Glen Avenue to East Mason Street in memory of Sgt. Randy Rosenberg will be held Memorial Day, May 31 at the Unity Street Park gardens. A 1998 graduate of Berlin High, Rosenberg was on his second tour of duty in Iraq when a vehicle exploded at a checkpoint, killing him and two other American soldiers. The council voted to authorize spending up to $500 for refreshments and expenses for the ceremony.

The City of Berlin will soon discover that point-to-point racing doesn't draw the crowds... and this sounds like a one time event which means even less media pop.

I was able to check out new white diamonds on city connector trail [by truck of course] they look to show up much better than green painted markers on rd. I would still suggest putting a directional arrow just before trail changes direction to avoid any hesitation or question of direction of trail in riders not familiar with trail resulting in better traffic flow. Just my opinion anybody else?

Thank you to all involved to get the trail open through the town of Berlin excellent job!!! It makes great sense to keep network of trails moving forward . I was up over the weekend for sons safety course and did most of the city street trail by auto. My question is will there be turn arrows like suggested in the white diamonds??? possibly some small signs on light poles above Also on telephone poles for some more reassurance that you are still on the trail, (maybe every 100 feet or so in the "thick of town"), this is just a question/opinion as I am from out of town and I feel it would be very important to have. The reason I am writing this is because people like myself (out of towner's)are not familiar with the streets in town and I know that it's very important for the town to have Less to No confusion to keep this route open. Hope all goes well on the marking. Larry
